KUCHING, Thurs: Sarawak’s very own oil and gas company PETROS Bhd. achieved a revenue of RM1.2 billion last year to make it a newly-emerging billion-ringgit company, Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Zohari Tun Openg said here last night.
The achievement had been a significant feat by a company that was only five years old, he pointed out in his speech in conjunction with the fifth anniversary dinner of PETROS held at BCCK.
“As you all know, PETROS was incorporated five years ago in 2017 to become a flagship of Sarawak’s meaningful participation in the orderly exploitation of the oil and gas resources that the state is endowed with, while at the same time safeguarding the interests of Sarawak and its resources,” the Premier said.
He pointed out that it was the aspiration of every Sarawakian to able to benefit from the State’s oil and gas resources and well-positioned itself to become a developed economy with high income by 2030.
“Today, I am pleased to say that PETROS is among the ranks of the billion-ringgit companies, with a robust financial performance and a Triple-A RAM rating,” he told oil and gas industrialists and government officials attending the dinner at BCCK.
He said Sarawak needed to exploit the potentials of its resources in an aggressive but responsible manner simply because the State needed to expand its economy and shake off the tag of a “rich but poor State”.
“Put simply, our oil and gas resources have not been developed in such a manner as to give enough benefits to its people,” he stressed.
He added that PETROS had been on a journey of rapid growth that was supported by prudent equity funding and securing of financing facilities.
Earlier, the Chairman of PETROS, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid bin Bugo spoke.
Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister, Dato Sri Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, DUN Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Food Industries, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai, PETRONAS Chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh, Deputy Ministers, PETROS CEO Janin Girie and PETROS board members.
